Volunteer Week Spotlight on Kimberly Underhay
April 21, 2026

Say hello to Kimberly Underhay!
Kimberly is a long-term volunteer with EmpowerNL, having spent over 15 years with us on the Garden Committee, Para Transit Committee, as a Board Member and a Peer Support Leader. She also volunteers with COD-NL and People First NL.
Kimberly says “I have become more active in my community and doing exercises and getting myself in shape, overcoming medical challenges and encouraging others. I have worked with Children and Seniors and people with disabilities throughout my life and I believe in equality, equity, accessibility, inclusion and respect for all people. I have strong values and stand up for those that mean a lot to me. I like to see everyone co-operating in an accessible and inclusive society, educating and advocating for others.” She enjoys walking, painting, activities at the community centre and seniors groups, swimming, going to church and being with her family and friends.”
When asked how volunteering has improved her life, Kimberly says “It makes me feel very much needed and making a positive contribution to others, spreading a little sunshine and enthusiasm to others, just being there when someone needs you.”
