Project Coordinator – Gender-Based Violence and Sexual and Reproductive Health Initiative
Organization: Empower, The Disability Resource Centre (InclusionNL)
Location: Newfoundland and Labrador (remote / hybrid options available)
Term: 12-month contract
Hours: Flexible (to be determined)
Compensation: Competitive contract rate (commensurate with experience)
About the Opportunity
Empower, The Disability Resource Centre is seeking a consultant who identifies as a woman or gender diverse person with disability and a survivor of gender-based violence (GBV) to lead and coordinate a 12-month community-based project focused on:
- Promoting awareness of gender-based violence
- Addressing gaps in access to peer support and leadership
- Supporting women and gender diverse individuals in our community
This project is grounded in peer leadership, lived experience, disability access, and an intersectional lens, with a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and community empowerment.
About the Role
The Consultant will serve as the Project Coordinator, responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating project activities that engage and support women and gender-diverse individuals with disabilities, particularly those facing systemic barriers.
This role centers lived expertise as a strength and values leadership rooted in community, care, and social justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the 12-month project
- Develop and implement a community outreach and engagement plan
- Organize and facilitate workshops, events, or peer-led sessions
- Create accessible, plain-language educational resources on:
- Gender-based violence
- Sexual and reproductive health
- Build relationships with community partners and interest holders
- Support participant engagement in a trauma-informed and culturally safe way
- Incorporate a disability, intersectional, and rights-based lens into all activities
- Track progress and contribute to reporting and evaluation
- Ensure accessibility, inclusion, and safety are prioritized in all project work
Qualifications and Experience
We recognize that lived experience is a key qualification for this role.
Applicants must:
- Identify as a woman or gender diverse person with disability
- Identify as a survivor of gender-based violence
We also value:
- Experience in community-based work, peer support, or advocacy
- Knowledge of gender-based violence and/or sexual and reproductive health
- Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or community engagement
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
